The Maduraiveeraswami Katahi- the story of Madurai Veeran, narrates the legendary life of the protector of Madurai. He was born into an elite family, but separated from them and taken in by a family of the Arunthathiyar community. Veeran reached the city of Madurai where a tussle with the king led to his death and miraculous return to the land of living. As he was revitalized with the benevolence of goddess Meenakshi, Madurai Veeran became the guardian of her shrines and is seen in several Shakta temples, standing at the gate and Gopurams.

This bronze statue depicts Madurai Veeran in a still and active pose, standing with both his feet placed together in Sampadasthanak posture. His hair is in a curving updo, he has Tripunda marks on his forehead, and wears ornaments and a short dhoti. In his hands are a sword and a shield, highlighting his role as a warrior god.
