The local legends in the valley of Kashmir tell us that the art of Kashidakari- the famous Kashmiri embroidery came to the valley with the retinue of Sufi saints from Persia. The striking needlework caught the eye of the kings, who patronized it, and the artists, whose descendants continue to preserve this exquisite craft by letting a variety of textiles absorb the exquisite embroidery.
By using the traditional thread shades- green, purple, blue, and pink, the weavers have created pleasing floral patterns on the fine yellow georgette fabric of the saree. The pallu covered in multicoloured flowers looks no less than the blossoming Bagh or gardens of Kashmir, which have continued to be the muse of numerous poets.
