Amin was raised in Mumbai, India, where she pursued her teacher training after being born in Gujarat, India. Amin established the Gramshree Trust, a nonprofit organisation whose mission is to advance rural communities' access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunity. The trust assisted women in becoming financially independent by working with women's self-help groups and offering training in crafts including weaving and embroidery.
Amin participated in initiatives to advance literacy and education, particularly for women and girls. She thought that empowering people and communities via education was crucial for fostering social change.
Amin gained a great deal of recognition during her life for her work in social work and education, including the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian honours.
