Ram Saroop Ankhi


Indian author, poet, and novelist Ram Sarup Ankhi wrote in Punjabi. He began as a poet but ultimately became a fiction author.


For his novel Kothe Kharak Singh, a three-generational tale based on a hypothetical Punjabi village, he was won the Sahitya Akademi Award by India's National Academy of Letters in 1987. He also got numerous other honours, such as the Sarb Shresht Sahitkaar Award in 2009 and the Kartar Singh Dhaliwal Award from the Ludhiana-based Panjabi Sahit Akademi in 1992.
