Preface Man has devastatingly harmed and spoiled the very environment. in which he himself as well as all the flora and fauna has taken birth. It is needless to say that the human race is committing a slow but steady suicide. By their farsightedness, Indian thinkers had realised this fact a long time back when forests and wildlife used to be considered as barriers against human development. Man needed vast stretehes of well-organised farmland for agriculture and sustenance. So, to keep himself safe from dangerous and poisonous creatures and to keep his land free from harmful animals and pests, it had been obligatory for him to hunt and kill the associated creatures. Now, some 500 years back, the great Indian thinker Jambho Jihad- ...Illustrated the kinds of material and living things, Explained the species of animals and living beings. Opening his all seeing eyes realized the earth's future Mother earth crying for safety what a tragic picture.....! Vishnu-devotee Jambho ji had mixed human necessity and religion together to provide environment with safety and preservation. He blessed his followers with pious rules, forbidding the felling of green trees and the killing of living beings. This inspiration resulted in the historic event of 1730.... when 363 gallant, Bishnoi men and women sacrificed themselves by hugging the trees to save them from being cut. The event occurred as follows- The Maharaja of the state of Jodhpur, Sh. Ajmalrao (Ajit Singh) had got a fort built but he passed away before the completion of construction. His son Abhay Singh succeeded to the throne and ordered his Minister-in-Chief Girdhardas Bhandari to complete the unfinished construction of the fort. Girdhardas had been a close associate of the late king and so was an influential minister to the reigning king. He said that the fort was almost complete and that only plastering work was remaining to be done. So furnaces for lime were to be built.
