In the present book "Christian History and Historiography: A Study of Odisha" concerted efforts has been made to highlight the different aspects of Christianity and Christians in Odisha through study of primary and secondary sources. Some of the chapters of this book have been published already in different Seminar Proceedings, National and International Journals. Revising those articles published in the form of chapters of this book for dissemination of ideas and theories. After reading this book one can get clear cut idea about the Christians and Christianity of Odisha and their role for formation of history of Odisha.
This book divided into sixteen chapters' excluding introduction and conclusion. The first chapter is the introduction where the topic or the nomenclature of this book has discussed. In the same time the importance of this topic has been discussed in this chapter.
The second chapter deals about the coming of Christian Missionaries to Odisha, Preaching and teaching of Christianity by missionaries and establishment of Christian Street or Community life in Odisha has been focused.
The third chapter of this book deals on various techniques or tools and methods to convert peoples into the Christian fold. Very critically discussion has been made on skills which had been adopted by the Christian missionaries for propagation of Christianity among the Odias.
The 4th Chapter deals with the role of Christian Missionaries to convert Odias into the fold of Christianity and the methods that they have been adopted for propagation of Christianity in Odisha.
The Chapter 5th speaks about the different techniques and methods for the growth of Christian population in Odisha. The growth of population means the growth of Christianity in Odisha. This chapter has been narrated the various grounds of Christian demographic development in Odisha.
The sixth Chapter of this book says that the Christian family is the root of Christianity in Odisha and provides strong platform for the growth and development of this religion in Odisha.
The seventh Chapter speaks about the Culture of Christians in Odisha. Some important aspects of Christian Culture have been discussed in this chapter for the understanding of Christians and Christianity of Odisha.
The eighth Chapter also speaks about the role of early Christian Missionaries for the growth and development of education in Odisha. Education was the only important elements of that time that's why missionaries taught education to understand Christianity.
The 9th Chapter of this book has been focused on the role and efforts made by Christian missionaries for the establishment and development of English education in Odisha. The imparting education was one of the methods to propagate Christianity in Odisha. That has been narrated in this chapter.
The 10th Chapter says about the social change after becoming Christians. A particular tribe of Odisha, the Kandhas of Kandhamal has been studied that how their social life has been changed.
The 11th Chapter speaks about Social Transformation in Odisha.
The role and an attempt which has played by the missionaries have been discussed in this chapter. Because Odishan society was full of superstitions and blind believes that has been reduces after spread of Christianity in Odisha with the efforts of missionaries.
In the 12th Chapter, it is narrated about the Social life of Christians and the various elements of social life of Christians in Odisha. The Christians has been formed a separate social system in Odisha having their own practices through which they are known in Odisha.
In the 13th Chapter, it is narrated about the position of Christian Women within the Christianity and as a whole in Odishan society. The status of Christian women has been discussed in this chapter.
The 14th Chapter speaks about the identity of Christians of Odisha. The multi denominations and multi castes or community peoples of Odisha have been practiced this religion and are known as Christians within the boundary of Church but outside Church, they known with their Caste or community. Their caste became more important than the religion.
The 15th Chapter of this book speaks about the Church. The physical features of outside and inside Church have been discussed. The transformation of Prayer houses into Church and its different aspects has been narrated in this chapter.
The 16th Chapter says about the mechanism and units through which this religion is functioning in Odisha. One can get clear cut idea about the Christians social units and its functions from this Chapter.
The 17th or the last Chapter of this book speaks about the sources available in various points and the historians how they have consulted to write Christian history of Odisha. This Chapter provides clear idea on sources and source materials to study and write Christian history of Odisha.
The last chapter is concluding chapter where the estimation of this work has been done with care and logically.
