About the Author

Peter Percival (1803-1882) was a British missionary and educator who established religious schools in Sri Lanka and South India. He collaborated with Tamil scholar Arumuka Navalar to translate the Bible into Tamil, impacting the work of Robert Bruce Foote. Initially a Wesleyan Methodist, he later converted to Anglicanism. After returning to England, he worked as a lecturer before moving to India as an Anglican priest. Percival was renowned for his scholarship in Tamil and Telugu, publishing dictionaries and academic works.
