During the last 50 years, there has been an ever widening stream of bhajans, hymns and other varieties of compositions, in various languages by Sai devotees carrying their devotion and adoration to their beloved Sai, glorifying Him and His great mission and praying for His Love and Grace. A good number of them, are compositions in Sanskrit by highly talented persons, pundits and scholars in Sanskrit scriptural lore. Smt. Kausalya Rani Raghavan, has selected some of these Sanskrit compositions, along with a few traditional Sanskrit prayers whose devotional appeal has merited their inclusion in the compilation of "Daily Prayers to Bhagawan" for Sai devotees at large. She took up this task in a spirit of service, conversant with Sanskrit, to imbibe the full charm of the imagery as also the sweetness of the devotional fervour in these Sanskrit compositions. They include the 108 Names glorifying the Lord, the "Awakening Song" at dawn, lines adoring the "Auspiciousness" of the Lord, invocations to the Guru, the devotee's surrender to the Lord, morning and evening prayers and so on.
I value this exercise of hers as one more concrete evidence of the selfless work she has been doing along with her husband Sri Srinivasa Raghavan for the welfare of Society. May Sri Sathya Sai Baba bless this pious couple with more opportunities and greater strength to serve the Sai Organisation for years to come.
Oh Lord! You are the Eternal Truth, and You are also the indwelling God of every object and every living being in this great universe. Hence, as my Divine Indweller, You prompt me to think and to do whatever would make me worthy of Your Love and Grace. So You are the prompter and the producer of this book in reality. I feel myself highly blessed to be a humble servant in Your great Mission. Your mercy alone has choosen me to do this work of Sai-Seva for the benefit of Your numerous devotees and other pious people all over the world.
Whatever 'duty' thus comes to our lot, You want us to carry it out with full involvement, knowing full well its meaning as well as purpose. With this ideal in view, I followed the inner prompting to publish some selected Sanskrit compositions of Your ardent devotees - Stotras and Slokas in English alphabets and also give, in English, their content as well as inner significance. My sole aim in doing this has been to help earnest devotees to understand fully the truth and glory of Your Divinity and Your Divine Mission, so that they realise the blessedress of Sai devotion and the power of Sai's Grace.
In this difficult task, my Lord, I have received, by Your Grace, valuable guidance and help from Dr. Brahmanand Mavinkurve. Similarly, well known Sanskrit Scholars like Sri K. Thiruvenkatacharya and his son Sri T. Rangarajan, both being equally well-versed in our ancient Vedic literature, have been of great help to me in this work.
Bhagawan! As I humbly offer at Your Lotus Feet this work which is the fruit of Your own Grace, I am reminded of the Indian custom to offer, with devotion and reverence, a handful of sacred river water to that holy river itself, as though it is our own offering. I, therefore, beg of You to take me beyond this egoistic feeling of "doership", so that I may continue to do this Sai-Seva of writing work with the pure joy of being an instrument in Your Divine Hands.
