Ayurveda, being an exceptional system of knowledge compilation, Ayurveda anatomy (Sharira Rachana) plays an utmost important role in diagnosing and therapeutic procedures. Henceforth, the anatomy of dental structures is far the most essential in dentistry. Ayurveda Shalakya Tantra elaborately discusses numerous dental practices including diagnosis and management of dental disorders.
This book is prioritized to discuss the Ayurvedic perspective of the anatomy of dental structures viz-a-viz modern anatomy. Further, anatomical deformations of dental structures are also elaborately discussed in this book.
I expect that this publication will be very useful for undergraduates of BAMS and Ayurveda postgraduate scholars. Other than the scholars, the simple language pattern and descriptive compilations will facilitate the enhancement of knowledge among the general public.
Ayurveda, the science of life is traditionally considered a supplement to Vedas, this is the upaveda of Atharvaveda. It deals not only with healthy or unhealthy conditions of the body but also preaches about the wholesome and unwholesome dimensions in the field of social, religious cultural philosophical, and other aspects of life.
Lord Dhanvantari divided Ayurveda into 8 parts which deal with different aspects of health, according to various parts of the body, the Shalakya Tantra is one which deals with diseases of the supraclavicular regions, it includes diseases of the eyes, ear, nose, head, and oral cavity.
Among the Samhita which is available now, Sushruta Samhita gives a wide description of the diseases of Shalakya Tantra, a detailed description along the anatomy of mukha, classification of the mukharoga, symptomatology, complications and management raised in Sushruta Samhita.
Here an attempt has been made to compile the knowledge of ancient Ayurvedic scholars scattered in Ayurvedic texts, oral hygiene methods are also mentioned as a part of dinacharya. To present it systematically is one of the requirements of the present era.
