Ayurveda is the most ancient and traditional science. Ayurveda is the science of life or Ayu. It is said as Upaveda of Atharva veda. Body, sense organs, heart and soul combine to form 'Ayu' And the Vedic Science that deals with 'Ayu' is called AYURVEDA - Ayushasya Vedah-Ayurveda'
Ayurveda is not only a system of medicine but also represents a way of healthy living. Ayurveda is formed by the combination of two words viz. "Ayur' means life and 'Veda' means knowledge. Thus, Ayurveda means the "knowledge of life". It is holistic in approach.
In course of time Ayurveda, which started as a magico-religious practice, matured into a fully developed medical science with eight branches which have parallels in the Modern Western system of Medicine.
