Book Description

Preface This book "FACETS OF MAHATMA GANDHI" is a joint effort of the Bhavan's Gandhi Centre of Science and Human Values and the Bangalore Kendra of All India Radio. The AIR Bangalore as a part of the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Akashavani, Bangalore, desired to broadcast a series of six talks by eminent persons from the Society on Gandhiji. They in accordance with the proposal broadcast six talks published here in sequential order and permitted us to publish them as a book. We are highly indebted the Director, AIR and the programme assistant who diligently accomplished the task of broad-casting them on every Wednesday. As the talks were delivered by eminent people, they were all received well. As the talks were restricted to only fifteen minutes, they could not be elaborative. The capsules having tremendous effect condensed and They are like small crisp. The articles at Sl.No.7 to Sl.No.9, written by Sri H.S. Doreswamy, Freedom fighter, Gandhian and Social activist, Sri Pascal Alan Nazareth, Formerly Indian Ambassador and Prof. M.V.Nadkarni, Formerly Vice-chancellor of Gulburga University, GoK, respectively are included here as they were delivered at the Centre earlier and we thought that they would enhance the value of the publication.

Foreword In commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of All India Radio Bangalore, we broadcast a series of ten talks in English on Gandhian Thought and Principles from October 2005. Eminent intellectuals like Justice Rama Jois, Sri K.Chennabasappa, Dr. K.Dwarakanath, Sri S.N.Chandrasekhar, Prof. N.Krishnaswamy and Prof. Sandeep Sastry presented the talks. I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all those who have contributed to this series. All India Radio, Bangalore has the tradition of publishing its valuable broadcast material to reach larger audience. We were glad when Gandhi Centre of Science and Human Values, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bangalore came forward to be associated with the series and agreed to bring out the talks in book form. We are grateful to them for this kind gesture. I sincerely thank Dr. S.Balachandra Rao, Hon. Director, who took personal interest in this series on AIR and in print. I would be failing in my duty if I do not mention the name of Smt. Sumangala Mummigatti, producer of the programme. I appreciate her sincere efforts in co-ordinating with the authorities of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Gandhi Centre. This is our Golden tribute to the Mahatma.
