Book Description
About the Book
This book delves into India's Fundamental Unity, stressing the vital components necessary for nation-building: shared language, religion, government, culture, and socio-economic structure. It emphasizes the necessity of a common territory for nationality to emerge, referencing the historical challenges faced by nomadic societies. Additionally, it underscores the pivotal role of stability in fostering unity and progress within a nation. Moreover, Yudhisthira's proclamation of paramountcy at Indraprastha united rulers from diverse regions, seeking to establish a cohesive confederation in a fragmented political landscape. Despite numerous obstacles, Yudhisthira recognized the rarity of achieving imperial status amidst formidable rivals vying for supremacy. The book concludes by emphasizing the Fundamental Unity of India, highlighting its ability to unify and integrate diverse parts into a cohesive entity. Over time, this unity transcended geographical boundaries, leading to the expansion of Indian influence overseas. While the detailed history of Indian colonization remains untold, its general conclusions and significant facts underscore India's remarkable unity and strength.

About the Author
Radhakumud Mookerji (1884-1963) was an Indian historian and nationalist during the British colonial era. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Calcutta in 1905 and taught at the Bengal National College. Mukherjee served in various academic roles at universities in Benares, Mysore, and Lucknow. Notably, he advocated for the concept of Greater India and authored "Indian Shipping: A History of Seaborne Trade and Maritime Activity of the Indians from the Earliest Times" in 1912. Recognized with the Padma Bhushan in 1957, his notable works include "Men and Thought in Ancient India" and "Nationalism in Hindu Culture."

Preface
THIS brochure is based on an article which I contributed to the Dawn and Dawn Society's Magazine in January, 1909. In its present form it was delivered as an address to the Calcutta University Institute in March last under the presi-dency of Sir Gooroodass Banerji, Kt., M.A., D.L., Ph.D., Ex-Vice-Chancellor of the Calcutta University; and it was reproduced in the pages of The Modern Review for April. It is now published with several additions and alterations. In this work I have not dwelt upon the important evidence of the fundamental unity of India furnished by the social and religious institutions of the country, but have confined my attention mainly to its geographical basis.

Introduction
MR. RADHAKUMUD MOOKERJI has honoured me by asking me to write an introduction to his interesting book. To those who follow the work of the band of Indian historical students who are struggling, with no great measure of encouragement, to found a school native to the soil and inspired by Indian tra-dition, Mr. Mookerji's books need no introduction, especially since he published his History of Indian Shipping. In this little book he attempts to lay the only foundation upon which an Indian Historical School can rest.
