Book Description

From the Jacket:

Mirza Ghalib will always remain a part of India's natural heritage. None before him composed Urdu poems as beautifully as he did; none after him. His thoughts elevate us and touch the innermost recesses of both our mind and our heart. His poems create magic - the words flowing like enchanting music from a flute.

In this volume, the reader will get a glimpse of Ghalib's personality as well as his poetry. In the first section, Ali Sardar Jafri, one of the greatest Urdu litterateurs, gives a brief biographical sketch of Ghalib and an appreciation of his personality and poetry. Then follow translations of excerpts from Ghalib's letters. In the second section, some of Ghalib's most beautiful couplets and ghazals are rendered into English from Urdu and Persian, by the distinguished writer Qurratulain Hyder.
