ABOUT THE ARTISTE Hindustani Classical Music has witnessed many a great maestros and Ustad Nissar Hussian Khan is one of those gems. Born in 1906, Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan is one of the most respected vocalists of the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana. His musical initiation began under his father Ustad Fida Hussain Khan. Nissar Hussain succeeded his father as a court musician in the court of Sayajirao Gaikwad of Baroda. Taan and Tarana singing are the hallmarks of the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana, and Nissar Hussain Khan had a superb mastery over both these forms. Gifted with a powerful voice, Nissar Hussain Khan ranged over three octaves in his Taan singing. This style of singing emphasizes greatly on the feeling of the Raga and Nissar Hussain Khan effortlessly excelled at this style. Being an undisputed master himself, Nissar Hussain Khan's musical genius helped create many stalwarts, of which Ustad Rashid Khan and Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan are the shining stars today.

ABOUT THE RAGAS The opening Bandish 'Bhanwda Yaarda' in Raga Lalit, an early morning Raga set to Teentaal, creates an aesthetically brilliant ambience, transporting the listener to another plane.
