About the Book
In this book the author says that Vedic Aryans were very much Indians and never did Aryan hordes descend into India from Central Asia or some other part of the world as is assumed by Western scholars. In his view, there never was an Aryan race but only an Aryan cult which originated in Indian soil and found acceptance in all corners of the land.
Shri Renu presses into service etymology, geography, archaeology, among others, in support of his view. He relies on the Vedic lore itself for evidence, particularly the Vedas. He discounts’ the theory that both the Aryans and the Dravidians were distinct races. His view may be summed up in his own words:
“Vedic Aryans were Indians. Their forefathers were residents, of India from time immemorial. Their language had an Indian base. Their Indian dialects were cultured and: gave shape to Sanskrit.”
Thought-provoking and controversial as the contents are, the book will be of interest to students of Indian history and culture.

Shri Renu wrote a series of articles on this subject for Bhavan’s Journal which were published in its issue Nos. 3 to 6 in September and October 1989.
The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has decided to publish these articles in book form, adding a Bibliography and Index, in the hope that this will lead to a nation-wide and dispassionate debate among scholars and students of Indian history and culture.
