Everything is normal in Kunal’s (Kunal Khemu) routine life. Fate brings Renuka (Smilie Suri) a young orphan girl on his doorstep. Soon the two are in love and even get married. But from here onwards their life is never the same again. Kunal and Renuka are secretly filmed through a hidden camera while on a honeymoon. Renuka is unable to bear the humiliation and commits suicide. Kunal has now to prove his innocence and uncover the truth behind the blue film racket. This leads him straight to the dark underbelly of Zurich……this is one man’s war against the entire pornographic world. Armed with only a picture of a famous Indian porn star Annie (Deepal Shaw), Kunal gets ready to fight a faceless foe.
Trivia: Emraan Hashmi sports a new look for the film with pierced eyebrows and red coloured hair. Amrita Singh makes a comeback with “Kalyug’ She dons the negative role of a woman don in control of the pornographic industry. Kunal Khemu, the main protagonist in the film, worked as a child artist in Hum Ham Rahi Pyaar Ke and Zakhm, before making a “full-fledged” acting debut in Kalyug. Mohit Suri- “Everything has been meticulously researched from journalistic data-from the PBS documentary American Porn, India Today’s article on desi porn and Times of India’s articles on honeymoon couples. Pornography is a $ 56 billion industry today with big companies and hotels profiting from it. Mahesh Bhatt- “I got the idea of making Kalyug after reading the India Today article on a honeymooning couple whose lovemaking scenes were recorded in a hotel and distributed throughout the world. The Bhatts had earlier named their film "Blue film”, but changed it to "Kalyug” because they did not want the audiences to have prejudice based on the title when they went to see the film. (Sensing the pulse and the mindset of the Indian audiences, the ‘name was changed)
