About the Book
They came from all corners of the world...and they came in vast numbers... scores of scary, able-bodied monkeys, golden-haired, tawny, dark and fierce, also go-langulas and shaggy-coated rikshas...and, led by the mighty vanaras, Hanuman, Sugreeva, Angada, Nala, Neela, Gaya and Gavaksha, they embarked on their sole mission-to bring back Rama's abducted wife Sita.
The Ramayana is the story of Rama's ayana or journey. In this journey, monkeys, who are, in reality, divine beings, play a major role in helping Rama destroy the demon-king Ravana and restore peace on earth. Right from locating where Sita Is kept in captivity in Lanka to making a setu (bridge) across the sea and fighting Ravana's army of demons to bringing her back, it is the monkey warriors who do it all. And eons later, when Rama's mission on earth is fulfilled, the monkeys depart to heaven with Him, all except Hanuman, for he is blessed with immortality. He stays behind on earth to spread Rama's message to all. Read the legends of the brave monkey warriors of the Ramayana who gave their everything to Rama and his mission.
