From his upbringing in a sub-urban environment, education in a city, followed by a brief stint at a broadcasting job in a metropolis, back to home, and then the exodus forced migration, with all disruptions and disappointments, he has put it all in his writings. His contribution to Kashmiri literature and to the craft of writing of tele serials and radio plays, is invaluable.

Introduction

Bharti- the man who saw too much.

"The only point at which we approach the hard kernel of Real is indeed the dream-----"

Philosophers, religious leaders, and creative artists, painters, sculptors, writers, poets, have all been delving into the problem of reality. They have all tried to present their versions of reality, as they saw it, or felt or intuitively understood it, in their creations or philosophical or prophetic versions, written, painted, or sculpted. There is no finality, the struggle is still on. That is what life is about. But with the change of times, the patterns, designs, and formats have undergone transformation. All creative artists will try to relate their endeavour or search with the real lived life, with its problems, conflicts and dilemmas, and then comes into play their imagination, their dream world. With a super sensitive mind, Bharti couldn't remain immune from this urge to build his "own" world. Bharti lived life, experienced it, faced its conflicts and dilemma, put down his feelings, his failures, conflicts and sorrows and griefs. But all this he faced as a free spirit, nothing could bind him, rein in his imagination, he believed in giving it free play. From his upbringing in sub-urban environment to education in a city, and a brief stint at a job in metropolis, back to home and then exodus-forced migration- to another place, with all the disruptions and disapponitment, he put it in his writings. As Bharti himself writes-that a man lives simultanaously in two worlds, the physical world with all its comforts, pains, griefs and joys; and the world of his sensibility. As per him these are parallel worlds and crisis occurs when the two worlds, get intermingled or intertwined. That gives rise to the anguish, pain or the torture of living. A sensitive man can never remain unaffected by happenings in the environment. Only the response can differ.
