Description
About The Book

Meet Krishna the Cowherd Prince, Ganesh the Elephant-headed God, Hanuman the Monkey God and a host of other gods and goddesses! With delightful illustrations in the Mithila folk-art style of Bihar, these marvellous mythological tales have been simplified and recounted here for the young child.

It is a colourful introduction for children to the wonderful world of Hindu gods, goddesses and heroes.

About the Author

Sheila Dhir won the Indo-Soviet Nehru Award when she was thirteen. A graduate of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and a Masters in Mass Communication from University of Denver, Colorado, she has written and illustrated several books for children. Her Book Gandhi received the Public Relations Society of India Award in 1984.

Introduction

Indian mythology is full of stories of gods and goddesses. Sometimes, these celestial beings took the forms of beasts and birds. There are many wonderful myths about these divine creatures, which, like all mythological stories, have many versions and layers. These stories and myths have been simplified and recounted here for the young child.

The illustrations in this book have been adapted from the folk art of Mithila, in Bhiar. For about three thousand years, the women of Mithila have been painting the stories of gods and goddesses, and these child-like drawings are done in a similar style.
