The conventional research on this discipline and the lives of the Nachnis present us with information, most of which is plagued by academic jargon. But absent are the raw ebbs and flows of a Nachni's daily life. Neither is there any reflection of that society's socio-economic wear and tear.
Capturing the very essence of the struggle of these performers and their equation with the Rasiks and the rest of the musical troupe had been the primary aim of this book. Each of the photographs presented here showcases a surreal world, far away from the hustle and bustle of our city life. There's a graphic sense of smelling the tiring sweat these dancers shred off in each of their performances a kaleidoscope of the remote yet incredible Purulia. Bringing forth; the ever-lasting melody of this "frontier" region, mixed with a spoonful of melancholy and a generous sprinkling of optimism at the top is what every page of this book tries to achieve.

The lion's share of gratitude is deserved for 'Sahapedia.org', an open encyclopedic resource on the arts, cultures and histories of India. Without them, the inception of this project would not have been possible. Their aid and financial support made it feasible for me to devote my time, energy, and intent to this project. To travel across Purulia in pursuit of observing the daily lives of nachnis closely need extended support. I might have started this project out of instinct and passion, but to sustain it with the same intensity, Sahapedia had a major role to play.
