Preface
For any of the astrological in-depth analysis, recourse needs to be taken to the different astrological classic books, like Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Phala-Deepika, Jataka-Parijata, Saravalli and the like, which contain specific and important astrological connotations, regarding various astrological predictive variables and deciphers. Navamsha is one of such astrological nomenclature, which has been given a lot of importance for its predictive usage, in all such classic books. Navamsha is equally one of the most important astrological predictive tools, which has a prominent significance in the Vedic Astrology. Navamsha is one of the most important divisional charts, amongst various divisional charts, for predictive purposes. Navamsha chart has been given immense importance after the Rashi chart, by various classic books of astrology. BPHS has emphasized that Navamsha is the next most important divisional chart amongst the various divisional charts. Maharishi Parashara has not excluded Navamsha from the different Varga systems used in astrological predictions. In fact Navamsha chart is a vital chart in this sphere of various varga charts which is always considered next to the birth chart. It can be seen that from the Vimshopak Bala point of view, in the Shadvargas, (Six Divisional Charts), Sapatavagas, (Seven Divisional Charts), and the Shodashvargas, (Sixteen Divisional Charts), Navamsha gets 5, 4.5 and 3 points, respectively on a scale of 20 points base, in these groups of Varga charts. This shows the importance and essence of Navamsha for the predictive purposes. Maharishi Parashra stresses that all predictions should be given after the analysis of Shadvargas. The word Navamsha comprises of two words, Nava which means nine and Amsha which means division. So it is the 9th division of a sign. The 9th house of a horoscope represents 'Dharma It being one ninth part of a Rashi, It thus indicates the outcome of one's 'Dharma' This is a very important aspect of every one's life to know about his 'Dharma' and its fruits. So Navamsha is a very important Varga chart in the whole scheme of the various groupings of various divisional charts. Some learned astrologers have taken a view that the effect emanating from the Navamsha is equal to that of a Rashi chart. It is commonly believed that Navamsha is meant for ascertaining one's marriage and spouse, yet, its utility is quit varied in the predictive astrology. It is the qualifying chart of the main birth chart, in respect of the strength of planets in the main birth chart. It bestows credence positive or negative, to the main birth chart as per the placement of the planets of the main birth chart in the Navamsha chart. It shows one's inherent qualities. The Navamsa shows the actual strength of a planet. It also indicates additional information regarding the power and quality of the planet. The good or bad results of a planet largely depend upon its position in the Navamsha chart. For example Sun in Aries sign in the main birth chart, going to Libra Navamsha, loses its potential strength as an exalted planet in the main birth chart. On the other hand Sun in the Libra sign in the main birth chart, getting placed in the Aries Navamsha, gives good results. It is equally important to make a mention of various designated Navamshas here, which are the off shoots of the main Navamsha, like Vargottama Navamsha, Pushkara Navamsha, 64% Navamsha, Nidhanamsha, Ashtamsha, etc, which are linked to the bestowment of good or bad results. This book is spread over ten chapters, when an attempt has been made to deliberate upon various aspects of Navamsha, its usage, its importance, its computation, its analysis, its limitations etc, in the various chapters of this book. Similarly an attempt has been made to sum up the various effects of various Navamshas in different Bhavas and rashi's, along with the results there of. Various Navamshas like Vargottama Navamsha, Pushkara Navamsha, 64th Navamsha, Nidhanamsha, Ashtamsha, etc, which are linked to the bestowment of good or bad results, have been discussed in detail in various chapters of this book. A chapter captioned as "Navamasha & Marriage", is also a part of this book, in which various astrological parameters relevant to 'Marriage and its longevity', have been discussed in detail along with time tested example Birth and Navamsha charts. About 20 time tested horoscopes, mostly belonging to high dignitaries, high ranking politicians, spiritual saints and philosophers, etc, have been discussed in detail, linking each birth chart to its Navamsha chart, to assess the qualities
