In this work there is a collection of Dr Jonathan Shore's lectures on children in
general, highlighting the important points useful in pediatrics practice. This book
contains an amalgamation of cases, remedies and staging of remedies, thereby,
giving you a complete picture of pediatric cases, making you to have a firsthand
account of pediatric practice. This book has been enriched with video cases also,
giving pictures of children depicting various expressions and pointing towards a
remedy. Case presentations have been done by Alize Timmerman also, along

Jonathan Shore M.D., DHt, MF Hom was born on August 6,
1943, in Cape Town, South Africa. He graduated from the
University of Cape Town Medical School in 1968. He has
intensive knowledge of Acupuncture, Tai-Chi Chuan, Massage,
Jungian psychology Gestalt therapy, Bioenergetics, Rolfing,
Radiesthesia, Iridology, Herbal Medicine, Bach Flower
remedies, and Colour therapy. Since 1982, he has been a full
time homeopathic practitioner in the San Francisco area.
Dr Shore has a private practice and works at the Hahnemann Clinic, of which he
was one of the initiating founders. Dr Shore has taught worldwide since 1983. In
1992, he was awarded membership of The Faculty of Homeopathy, England. He
is on the editorial board and is a past editor of the Journal of the American Institute
of Homeopathy.

INTRODUCTION
The reason why we chose to have this seminar on
pediatrics is quite clear to me, but I may have to explain that. When
we treat children, it is very important to try and cure them Do you
realize what the effect will be over time, if we are able to treat and
cure children? In fact, we can prevent them from having all kinds
of toxic drugs in the future and we are actually working on the
improvement of health in general. Of course many of you are
already practising for quite a long time, so I think most of you have
already seen children in your practice, but it is good to have a
seminar focused on children.
Jonathan’s power of bringing remedies alive, impressed
me so much, that I realized that it was very important for all of us
to share this effect. It is not only the knowledge in homoeopathy;
we have all kinds of books and we have computers: knowledge is
present everywhere. Nowadays it is very important in homoeopathy
to experience the remedies and also to be able to experience the
remedies deep inside, it makes it easier for us to recognize the
vibrations of the remedies in our patients.
PAST HISTORY OF JONATHAN SHORE
Jonathan was born in Cape Town, in South Africa, and
there he graduated from medical school in 1968. But after he
graduated from medical school he decided that he had learned
everything except how to be healthy. So Jonathan decided to
abandon medicine and he went in search of health, travelling
extensively in Europe and the Middle East, ending up in America.
There he worked for some time as a child-care worker, in a
residential treatment centre for psychotic adolescents. All the time
he pretended not to be a doctor, but in the end he realized that
somehow he couldn’t escape it and he started to look for other
ways of practising. For instance, he came upon Chinese medicine,
and studied and practised acupuncture for quite a long time. Then
somehow he started to read about homoeopathy. He read Kent and
was very much impressed by this serious and God-fearing man,
claiming all these things about homoeopathy, and he decided to
investigate. At first Jonathan tried to find the homoeopathic
remedies with the pendulum and for years he didn't get any
results.
Thenaremarkable thing occurred: Jonathan was in a pub
somewhere in California and there was somebody in front of him,
whose name was also Shore. They introduced themselves to each
other and the other man appeared to be also a student in
homoeopathy. The other man told Jonathan that he should use the
repertory for his cases. At first Jonathan was rather reluctant to
accept that, but the other man insisted. So in the first case that
came along, Jonathan repertorized the case and came upon
Sulphur. It was the case of a sixteen-year-old boy, who had had
asthma all his life. Jonathan gave Sulphur and after those few little
pellets the asthma was gone! It was such a striking thing. So he
continued with homoeopathy, being very serious, studying his
cases and reading Kent.
Then in 1978 George Vithoulkas came to the United
States and Jonathan spent many hundreds of hours with him. In
the end he was so much under his influence that he decided to
devote himself to the practice of homoeopathy. Jonathan is also
one of the founders of the Hahnemann College of Homoeopathy (in
the United States). Nowadays Jonathan has a practice in the United
States and a part of his practice is pediatric.
Iam very happy to be here; I enjoyed myself very much
when I was here last time. It is wonderful that people are so
enthusiastic. It is very different in America actually; here in Europe
there is much more homoeopathy. And it is wonderful to be able
to come and to have a lot of people attending and to know there
is this interest. So in that sense I am actually very grateful tube
here. And the other thing I would like to say is: of course, when
one gives a seminar like this, there is a lot of work that goes into
the preparation. The cases that I have chosen are cases I know, the
remedy has worked, I have looked at the videos many times and
I read the things. So it looks as if I know everything exactly and
of course this is not true. I mean, we are all in the same boat. |
struggle very hard with my cases; homoeopathy is very difficult for
me and I don’t want you to have the idea that just because it comes
so nicely and so clearly and so cleanly that it means: I have all this
tremendous knowledge and you don’t know anything. We have to
be very clear about all of this. We are here together and. so
everyone has something that they can maybe contribute, and if you
speak too much nonsense, I will tell you to keep quiet. So I want
you to feel that you can speak and make your own suggestions and
things like this. Maybe there are people here who are actually
better homoeopaths than me: quite probably. And I know that in
Europe you have many people who are of a tremendously high
quality.
So most of this will be on children. And what I have in
mind is mostly video. I am not prepared to give much of a didactic
lecture actually. And I am not prepared to give you full materia
medica on the remedies. I assume that most people already know
something about most of the polychrests and so we are not going
to spend a lot of time giving information about the larger remedies.
But we will look at the videos and try to see how this person is and
how that person is and get some tips about this remedy and that
remedy. Then a little bit more information about some of the
smaller remedies. So I think I have about twenty-three different-
remedies on the video and we will see as we go through how that
is. I have prepared a lecture on otitis media, because you can’t do
any pediatrics without otitis media, so I thought that would bea
good sort of didactic lecture. Also I would like to give another
lecture on the remedy Carcinosinum, because it is very common in
my practice and so J have some experience with it. And even
though I have seen much of the material which has come out of
Europe, I feel that I still have something to add about it.
