About the Book In this book, the author explores a variety of philosophical themes, presenting a collection of essays that cover a wide range of subjects. The topics included delve into Idealism in Gentile, International Morality, Approach to Metaphysics, Some Aspects of Buddhist Philosophy, Croce and Buddhism, General Introduction to Tantra Philosophy, Yoga Psychology, Philosophy of Vasubandhu in VimsikA and Trimsika, Dogmas of Indian Philosophy, Implications of Realism in the Vedanta, Message of Buddhism, Yoga Theory of the Relation of Mind and Body, Epistemology of the New School of Logic in Bengal, Maya of Sankara and his Followers, Meaning of Culture, and A Hindu View of Religion. In a deeper sense than typically perceived, religion encompasses the spiritual manifestation of our personality. Art, although supportive of religion, differs in spiritual expression by avoiding material forms. Art embodies creative activity expressed through sensory forms, engrossing the inner self in emotional elation. The subject of representation varies from landscapes to emotional complexities, with the sensory elements evolving from the spontaneous and joyful flow of the creative mind.

About the Author Surendranath Dasgupta (1887-1952) was an Indian scholar renowned for his expertise in Sanskrit and Indian philosophy. Born in Bengal, he excelled in Sanskrit at Calcutta's Ripon College before obtaining master's degrees in Sanskrit and Western philosophy. Dasgupta earned acclaim for his contributions to the History of Indian Philosophy, a groundbreaking five-volume series. His career included teaching positions, prestigious lectures, and international recognition. Despite health issues, Dasgupta remained dedicated to his scholarly pursuits until his death in 1952.

Preface Most of these papers were read before Inter-national gatherings, either in this country or abroad. Some of them, however, appeared in learned journals, and there are one or two which appear here for the first time. They have been written at different times and treat of subjects which are widely different. As such no unity of thought can be claimed. But it is hoped that the unconventional manner in which many of the subjects have been approached may stimulate the interests of abler scholars for reaping a better harvest. My best thanks are due to my pupils, Prof. Miss S. Mitra, Sästrī, M.A. and Dr. Satindra N. Mukherjee, M.A., Ph.D., and Dr. S. B. Dasgupta, M.A., Ph.D., Lecturer, Calcutta University, for very kindly revising the proofs. My best thanks are also due to my friend, Dr. Syamaprasad Mookerjee, M.A., D.Litt. (Hon.), Bar.-at-Law, President, Post-Graduate Council in Arts for the kind interest that he took in the work which eventually led to its publication by the Calcutta University
