First edition of the book was received well. Second edition is ready now. During this interval, this dasha was intensively tested by my friends in the faculty as well as research students at Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan and in Russia, where this dasha was blind tested. Many predictions given by them based on DSS have been fulfilled.
I wished to include them here but restrained myself. This is for readers of the book to test the dasha on varied incidents of life using the conditional dasha which supersedes Vimshottri dasha.
My colleague and friend, Shri Vinay Gupta, tested this dasha on a number of horoscopes in his classes and gave a wonderful report.
In the second edition, I have added astrological portraits of many well-known personalities of the worold whose horoscopes conform to DSS. This includes former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Adolf Hitler and George Bush etc. besides restructuring the book at some places.
This second edition is perhaps late by four years. Saturn's aspect on my third house perhaps the cause for it. My Guru and my teacher have been guiding me and goading me for bringing it out faster but perhaps "prarabdh" willed otherwise. Now it is before you and needs your critical appraisal.
I shall be grateful for your feedback.
There are more than two crore (twenty million) shlokas in astrology and what is available today, through printed books, is just above five lakh (500,000) and that too in a corrupted form is what Shri K.N.Rao, has said many times, quoting his jyotish guru, Yogi Bhaskarananda. When you sit down and analyse the written works of many authors, you find a lot of avoidable mistakes which have crept in and which have made the works defective. Imagine the amount of unavailable astrological principles which, if available, could have made our task much easier. In the absence of any clear directions, we have to struggle to understand the meanings of the shlokas available to us and then subject them to rigorous testing and applications on practical horoscopes to understand their real meaning. This is what is being done at Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan, New Delhi, world's largest school of astrology with over 900 students in July 2001.
A team of dedicated researchers under the guidance of Shri K.N. Rao are trying to empirically prove and re-establish the classical astrological principles relating it to today's society. A carpenter of agragarian society is no more a carpenter today. A blacksmith is an engineer these days. Therefore, these dictas need to be reinterpreted in consonance with the present-day society. This is precisely the principle of "desh, kaal and patra" (country, time and the individual). In doing so, we should never sacrifice or compromise on classical principles of astrology. Holding a Bachelor's degree in science, this multi-pronged approach appeals to my scientific temperament which needs to test each and every thing before accepting and adopting it. Because our generation of astrologers will not accept anything blindly inspite of all the respect that we have for our ancients. Always depend upon the shlokas given in the classics but try and understand them in all the three forms "Shabdartha" (literal meaning). "bhavartha" (implied meaning) and "lakshyartha" (secret meaning).
It is in this context that I narrate the following incident which led to birth of this book on Dwisaptati Sama dasha which is a conditional dasha applicable only to horoscopes with a specific combination. This combination is, lagna lord placed in the seventh house or the seventh lord is placed in lagna, then only this dasha should be applied.
I accompanied Shri K.N. Rao to Vrindavan in November, 1998. He was going to attend the "Sansthapana Diwas function of Vrindavan Shodh Sansthan, in that trip I carried the copy of my Brihat Parashar Hora Shastra and my horoscope book. This was in anticipation of some astrological discussion on way to Vrindavan and during our three days stay at Vrindavan On the way, Shri K.N. Rao gave me a transcript of translation of one of his books in Hindi to make proof corrections. I started reading the translation in the car and placed my briefcase on the backseat of the car using it as a make shift writing table.
Enroute, we stopped for tea and relaxed for a while. On resuming journey, I put some questions trying all the while to clarify doubts which were many. The discussion finally narrowed down to dashas. He asked me to narrate my horoscope which I did and he then asked for the navamsha. Mentally working, he told me many things which were astonishingly correct. I asked him, "Sir how do you do it and with such great accuracy time and again. How much hard we may try, we falter at times" It was then he asked me, "which book are you carrying with you?"
I replied, "Brihat Parashar Hora Shastra."
"Have you read carefully the Dasha-adhyaya of this book? Did you ever think as to why Parashara has given more than 42 dashas for analysing horoscopes whereas, at present, at the most, we use only 6 or 7 of these dashas."
"I have seen and read this chapter and have noticed that this contains many dashas which are conditional and need to be applied only to horoscopes which satisfy some specific conditions. But I have never tested or applied them", I replied.
It was then that he asked me to read the description given for some conditional dashas and then narrated horoscopes on which such dashas applied. His crystal-clear analysis and his logic for applying these dashas appealed to me and it was then that I decided to work on one such dasha which was Dwisaptati Sama Dasha. I told him of my resolve and he encouraged me. Some years ago, he had guided and edited a book on Yogini Dasha by N.K.Sharma and Jhanji while he himself was writing on Jaimini dashas.
On coming back to Delhi I could not take up the work immediately as the weekend classes, office and the work of Journal of Astrology also takes time. One needs some free time to work on research projects. Then you need data to apply your research. Only when I started getting result that I thought I shall share it in this form. Mr. Rao always encouraged me and clarified my doubts at points to make this work possible.
