Immediately after the demise of Prof. S. K. De, a committee, called S. K. De Memorial Committee, was constituted with Dr. R. C. Majumdar as the President. The Committee got a ready and generous response from the scholarly world, both Indian and foreign, to its appeal for contribution for the projected S. K. De Memorial Volume. We are grateful to the scholars who have enriched this Memorial Volume by their valuable papers. We take this opportunity to thank them all most heartily.
To the contributors we owe an apology for our inability to place the Volume in print before them within the promised time. The delay, however, was caused by the repercussions of the unstable political conditions of Calcutta on the work of the Press. As the circumstances were beyond our control, we could not get the printing completed earlier despite our best efforts.
It is our melancholy satisfaction that we have been able, in the face of heavy odds, to present our humble offering to the hallowed memory of Prof. S. K. De who added lustre to Indo-logical studies by his scintillating achievements, and earned the unstinted regard of his pupils by his readiness to help them in advanced studies.
Our thanks are due to Sri Kanailal Mukhopadhyay, proprietor of Firma K. L. Mukhopadhyay, who undertook the publication of this Volume at his own cost.
