Literature creation manifests in two styles - poetry and prose. Under the poetic style, we have forms like poems 'epics, etc. Under the prose style, there is an abundance of literary works in various forms such as novels, stories, dramas, essays, one-act plays, biography and so on. In the last few decades, authors have shown a trend towards the creation of spiritual pictorial narratives. Some outstanding pictorial works, related to mythological narratives and mythical tales have emerged in the literary world.
Pictorial narration is a new form. Its necessity and utility are undoubtedly significant in the modern era. People's lives have become so busy in this materialistic age that there is hardly enough time for spiritual learning. Interest in art, literature, and religion is diminishing day by day. In the hustle and bustle of life, there is no opportunity to connect with the elements that bring profound satisfaction and joy to the heart. For people distressed by the pressures of troubles, a pictorial narrative is like a panacea. In a short time, it fills their spiritual void, transforming life from being gloomy and joyless to one filled with the flow of happiness.
Pictorial representation serves as a powerful medium to awaken those running in all directions and those lost in ignorance, bringing them on the path of righteousness. As soon as a picture is presented before the eyes, it starts expressing its story, and message, and the summary text beneath the picture immediately clarifies its essence, philosophy, and significance. Spiritual pictures are a blessing for the younger generation, attracting the consciousness of the youth towards spiritual realms. Elderly devotees and those who find reading and writing difficult, upon seeing pictures with the narration, experience the emotions depicted in the images and become filled with devotion.
The term 'art' is mentioned within the context of literary work. There are five types of art: architecture, sculpture, painting, music, and poetry. In drawing, where art is presented on a surface, only length and width exist, but with the arrangement of colors and the composition of the palette, the height, width and depth can also be expressed. Thus, the nature and the situation and the era can be present in a picture by the arrangement of colours and the palette, increasing its utility to communicate the message.
Let's revisit the history of Shirdi Sai Baba through pictures. Kashiram Shimpi called a photographer to take Sai Baba's first picture. Baba is seated in front of the Dhuni in this photo. Shri Deshmukh took Baba's second picture. In this, Sainath is seated on a stone. Shyamrao Jaykar took Baba's third picture. He prepared Baba's picture after taking six months to paint it. The specialty of this painting was that if anyone looks at it from any angle, it would seem as if Baba was looking at them. This picture is enshrined in Dwarkamai. D.D. Niroy also made a picture of Baba on a stone. This was an effort to preserve Baba's form. His true form is now in front of the whole world and is deeply rooted in the hearts of people as a symbol of faith. Based on these images, after Baba's Mahasamadhi, Vasant Talim created Baba's stone statue which is located in the Samadhi Mandir. The usefulness of the image is unquestionable.
