Humans have created artificial vivisections of society in every conceivable way, be it through religion, race, caste, creed, region, nation, and so many others. Religious and national strife are regular features and reasons for dissention. There is limited place for self-improvement or inner introspection or self-development. Life's aims and goals should be identified, incorporated, and integrated into daily routines and ways of living, alongside everyday material pursuits.
The book 'Some Whispers from Eternity' was the result of an inspiration to reverse the current trends of total degradation of life on earth and the lack of empathy and compassion for humans living here for one another. We are presently at a crossroads - either we can continue the present path and destroy ourselves, or we can evolve our consciousness to a higher level where we can realize the Oneness of Creation and learn to live as a Global Family.
In the book, author Shomik Chaudhuri enumerates time-tested and authentic processes in detail that can help everyone to practice and evolve into better and more evolved human beings. The evolution of consciousness brings happiness, love, empathy, compassion and peace to us and everyone around us. It can create the global family that we dream of and help us evolve as a species and civilization.
Life is short. We need to start today and practice the lessons and build our relationship with God. We need to take small steps and practice with all sincerity and love for God. He will make our progress faster, easier, and more enjoyable. It should become a part of life and who we are. That will help us create Life Divine for us and Heaven on Earth through a Global Family.
Shomik Chaudhuri is a renowned author for over 30 years. His work has been published in renowned daily newspapers like The Statesman, The Asian Age in Kolkata, India; United Nations Chronicle, New York, USA; weekly newspapers like News India Times, Desi Talk, The South Asian Times and numerous magazines and publications. He has over two decades of education and training, including at Harvard and Cornell Universities. He is also an iconic personality in the Indian American print media world being the COO and CEO of some of the largest newspaper groups in the USA. His deep interest, insight and knowledge on spirituality and our human existence made him the youngest person in United Nations history to represent the organization to the World Summit for Social Development. Copenhagen, Denmark, in March 1995. He co-founded an NGO at the United Nations which introduced spirituality as an essential part of human development after which the UN started giving adequate attention to this most important aspect of our human existence. He also co-founded an international NGO based in India which is in Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC of the United Nations. He has been an ardent practitioner of spiritual austerities from childhood and has been practicing Kriya Yoga for over 4 decades. His deep interest and passion for spiritual wisdom led him to associate with God-realized saints and was initiated in OM Kriya Yoga by Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Rajivlochanacharya in 1999. He wants to use his knowledge to help people globally uplift themselves spiritually and attain Life Divine and create a Global Family.
In his very first book, Some Whispers from Eternity, Shomik Chaudhuri set himself an ambitious and onerous task-to encapsulate the infinitely vast literature of Hinduism in a cogent narrative running into a mere two hundred pages.
Hinduism is not a philosophy or religion. Its correct name is Sanatana Dharma (eternal order), proclaiming that it is a way of life for all human beings at all times and everywhere.
Hinduism is not attributed to a single prophet, like Abraham, Jesus, or Muhammad. Instead, hundreds of Indian sages and yogis dating from millennia ago experimented in the laboratory of life, often on themselves as subjects, to discern, discover and codify the truths that dawned in their consciousness, the eternal laws that govern the cosmic to the human to the atomic levels.
Precisely because Sanatana Dharma is not another religion, the compendium of its knowledge and wisdom with innumerable phalanxes cannot be set in one sacred book like the Torah, Bible, Quran, or Guru Granth Sahib. Our scriptures-Vedas, Shastras, and Puranas-running the gamut of many sciences and streams of life were codified and preserved over centuries in the oral tradition, saved in handwritten manuscripts, and after Gutenberg they are available in print form.
The spectrum of Vedic knowledge has at one end the most esoteric-Brahman as the ultimate reality, which is both immanent and transcendent.
And at the other end, the secular and practical arts and sciences such as Vedic Mathematics to do even the most complex calculations and calculus in a jiffy, Ayurveda and Yoga as holistic care of body and mind; Jyotish expounding on cosmology, astronomy, and the gravitational pull and effects of large planets on our minds; Vaastu, the science of energy systems in living spaces; and the 64 kalas, or performing arts.
Why is the seemingly mundane and secular considered part and parcel of Vedic scriptures? Because for the Hindu, not just spiritual practices, all human endeavors, all acts, and all actions are to be aimed at self-realization. As Shomik writes in Chapter 6 of his book: ""The purpose of life, according to the Vedic tradition, is self-realization and the reestablishment of our lost relationship with the Supreme Being/Godhead.""
To keep his narrative lively, Shomik employs an Upanishadic device-the question-and-answer format to dwell on a certain subject and go deep. He starts each of his fifteen chapters with a conversation with his friend Madhu.
Some Whispers from Eternity is not limited to giving a bird's eye view of Vedic literature. In that continuum, Shomik deftly places Kriya Yoga, which has the potential to accelerate your spiritual evolution.
Kriya Yoga is an advanced spiritual system that Paramahansa Yogananda brought to light with his iconic book, Autobiography of a Yogi. Shomik learned it as Om Kriya Yoga from his master, Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Rajivlochanacharya, and has practiced it for decades. Shomik, of course, points to Kriya Yoga as a supreme gift from Mahavatar Kriya Babaji a fabled ""Mahamaster,"" said to be immortal.
Kriya Yoga, Shomik explains, has the concentration factor like other meditation techniques, but makes it more intense with additional kriyas and asanas to enhance the experience of the seeker.
Traditionally, Kriya Yoga lessons are imparted by guru to shishya in an institutional setting, strictly after initiation. Shomik has broken the secrecy around this less-known system and devotes one entire chapter in his book to giving step-by-step Kriya Yoga instructions.
A media person who has had a long association with a United Nations affiliated organization, Shomik concludes by suggesting that the knowledge he has presented should be applied to uplift and transform the entire humanity.
This book was written after seeing and experiencing the total degradation of life on earth, lack of empathy and compassion of humans living here for one another. Humans have created artificial vivisections of the society in every conceivable ways, be it religion, race, caste, creed, region, nation, and so many others. Religious, national strife is a regular feature; humans show hatred toward their fellow beings over nominal things and, of course, the reasons for dissention. The level of consciousness of most people is limited to partying, drinking and making merriment only. There is limited place for self-improvement or inner introspection or self-development. Merriment is good for some time. But the life aims and goals should be understood and practiced and included in people's lifestyle, along with merriment and having a good time.
My understanding, knowledge and experience tells me that human life is the most valuable event to happen to us. We have evolved through innumerous lives to attain the human form. Only the human form has the capability to evolve into the divine state. The aim of our lives is to understand and realize our inner core, which is bliss and divinity. In the book I have enumerated numerous processes that help anyone to practice and evolve into better and more wonderful human beings. These are time tested and authentic processes that make it possible for anyone to practice. A student, a householder, a business- man, a manager, a worker, anyone.
This not only helps you become better but also brings happiness and peace to everything and everyone around you. Studies, work, relationships, experiences all become much better. Concentration, patience, focus, endurance, calm disposition, body fitness among so many others evolve inside you. The quality of life becomes better.
I have learnt, practiced and taught this to many people for over fifty years. I also have had close association with seers who are God-realized and people of great wisdom. Learning from them is a great blessing. But nothing beats the element of practice. Doing sadhana is the best way you can achieve anything and elevate yourself.
The results of this sadhana are too profound and life changing for me. Being an angry young man in my childhood days, I have lost anger in me. I have become more stoic, calm, with tremendous endurance, love and compassion. I am always at peace, meditative and happy. My relationships are now good, my work expresses a much higher quality than before. More than that I do not have any stress, anxiety, worry, and distress at any time.
I also have developed a loving relationship with God and so I always surrender to Him. I have a deep dependence on Him knowing that He will take care of me as long as I do my part. And on innumerous occasions, He does in unbelievable ways.
I can promise that people who read my book and follow the instructions and guidance enumerated there will find an inner transformation within a short time. Along with inner transformation, the outside world will also become more pleasing to you. A life divine and happiness is waiting for you. This is highly secret knowledge and wisdom that has never been distributed and explained in detail before. But Mahavatar Kriya Babaji had instructed my Guruji, Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Rajivlochanacharya, that this wisdom has to reach people globally and without any limitation. So, this wisdom is being shared by me to everyone so that their lives can be fulfilled, and they can lead happy, fulfilled and successful lives. So it is because of his instruction that I share this entire OM Kriya Yoga system with everyone like my revered Guruji did.
I have also worked in my personal capacity with the United Nations through affiliated NGOs. One of them I formed as a cofounder, Institute of International Social Development, based in India, has even received the prestigious Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC of the United Nations for its exemplary work.
