Book Description
About The Author

Sri Kannampuzha Ramakrishna Warrier was born in an ancient joint family situated in a village in Thrissur District, in Kerala. He attained Divine Abode on Feb 12th, 2021. His basic education was in a high school in his village and he passed S.S.L.C examination with first class. He could not continue higher studies in college for various reasons. He then studied Hindi and passed Rashtra Bhasha Visarod examination and worked as a Hindi teacher for one year. In the mean time somebody told him that in Bombay one can work in an office and do part time studies in college. So, he went to Bombay, took up a clerical job in an office and simultaneously attended college classes during morning and evening. Doing so he passed M.A. in Philosophy and also LL.B. He worked in various offices and ultimately joined Siemens India Ltd., a German company. While working there, he learned the German language.

He wanted to learn Sanskrit from his childhood itself, but due to various reasons he could not do it, although some of his elders in the family were Sanskrit scholars. He had an instinct to write poems in his mother tongue Malayalam, and he wrote and published three books in that language.

During all these days his desire to learn Sanskrit remained unfulfilled.

When he retired from the German company at the age of sixty, the next day itself, he went to a book stall and purchased some Sanskrit self-instructor books and started learning the divine language by himself. When he got a little knowledge of Sanskrit, he began writing poems in that language in the simple metre called Anushtoop. He has so far written ten books of poems. Most of his books are on the life history of spiritual leaders.

For his book, the Sanskrit translation of Rabindranath Tagore's "Gitanjali", he was awarded the Sahitya Academy award in 2012.

Preface

Srinarayanagurucaritam is a biographical poem written in Sanskrit about the life history of the social reformer, Sreenarayanaguru. Sri. K. Ramakrishna Warrier, the author of this simple but gracious work, poem, has written a number of Sanskrit and Malayalam poems of considerable merit and he has won the Kendra Sahitya Academi Award for Sanskrit poems in 2011. He has recorded the stories of Sreeramakrishna Paramahamsa, Vivekananda, Ramanamaharsi, Chinmayananda and others in Sanskrit. This Srinarayanagurucaritam, is published for the first time in Pratyabhijna research journal of the Sanskrit Sahitya department of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit in 2015-16. The author has made some corrections before the present book form in 2018, but before the publishing took place, Ramakrishna Warrier left this world last year. He was much eager to witness the release of the work in the University, but due to many technical problems, it was delayed for more than four years.

Sreenarayanaguru, the first and foremost among modern social reformers, encouraged the society as a whole by his works, talks and active participations in many programmes. He was visited by great luminaries like Mahatma Gandhiji, Rabindranatha Tagore and others. Kumaranasan, the renowned poet of last century from Kerala, was much influenced by Sreenarayanaguru both in his life as well as in his writings. All these incidents are illustrated by Sri. Ramakrishna Warrier in different chapters of the work. This poem is written in anustubh metre and is simple in form and graceful in ideas. The author has collected sufficient data from all the available works on Guru. We are grateful to him and release this poem to him as a homage to his everlasting enthusiasm in bringing this work in the book form.

The department of Sanskrit Sahitya has undertaken, besides the academic as well as research activities, the publication of creative and critical studies in Samskrita Sahiti series and this is the second one in that series. We proudly present this poem before the Sanskrit loving public.
