Numerous stories and traditions about Bhagavati Shri Santoshi Mata are widely known today, but some scholars still express doubts on the subject. Shri Santoshi Mata is considered manifestation of Bhagavati Durga, and in this Kaliyuga, she has incarnated for the welfare of her devotees. Many individuals have experienced the blessings of her divine grace, and this Purana elaborates on this very topic.
In Nepal, Mata Shri Devamaya Bhattarai has been devotedly worshipping Santoshi Mata since the age of nine. The revered Mataji had a divine vision (darshana) of Shri Santoshi Mata, and following this sacred encounter, she attained complete spiritual perfection (siddhis).
Today, Mataji has reached a state comparable to that of Paramahamsa Ramakrishna. She communicates directly with deities and celestial beings, offering guidance and resolving the doubts of devotees. Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu have personally appeared at her home, blessing her with two rare and divine presents.
Mataji has also founded the spiritual sanctuary, 'Neelkantha Dhama. Her divine persona and spiritual journey are beyond what words can fully express.
Tapasya at Gangotri Gangotri, a highly revered pilgrimage destination, is situated in the Uttarakashi district of Uttarakhand, India. As one of the four Chara Dhama sites, it is considered the birthplace of the sacred Ganga River. The Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, stands at an elevation of approximately 3,100 meters (10,200 feet) in the Garhwal region, Himalayas. According to Hindu legend, Goddess Ganga descended to Earth at the request of King Bhagiratha, to purify the souls of his ancestors.
Beyond its spiritual importance, Gangotri is also a breathtaking natural wonder, encircled by snow-capped mountains, dense forests, and the crystal-clear waters of the Bhagirathi River. It attracts devotees from all over the world, particularly during the Chara Dhama Yatra, seeking spiritual enlightenment. The tranquil environment of the temple and its surroundings offers an ideal setting for meditation and introspection.
Following the divine instructions of Santoshi Mata, Mataji undertook rigorous penance at Gangotri from Baishakh Purnima to Shravana Purnima, Vikram Samvat 2065 (2008 AD). During this sacred period, I was blessed with the opportunity to accompany her. By the grace and protection of Shri Santoshi Mata, I was granted the privilege of serving Ganga Mata, offering worship, and engaging in profound spiritual practices.
Throughout this time, I posed numerous questions to Mataji regarding the form and teachings of Shri Santoshi Mata, driven by my spiritual curiosity. In deep meditation, Mata Devamaya presented my inquiries to Santoshi Mata, received divine responses, and conveyed them to me, resolving my doubts. I documented these sacred revelations in the form of Sanskrit verses.
Every aspect of this book is rooted in the direct teachings of Shri Santoshi Mata and remains entirely authentic. No elements of imagination have been added. Upon its completion, this scripture was offered to Shri Santoshi Mata, incorporating all the refinements and revisions as guided by Mataji.
The number of Puranas and the new Purana The exact number of Puranas in India remains uncertain. However, according to Mataji's revelation, there are 18 Mahapuranas, 18 Upapuranas, 18 Aupapuranas, and 18 additional Puranas, bringing the total to 72.
In addition to these, the Jain tradition recognizes the 'Padma Purana', while the Buddhist tradition includes the 'Svayambhu Purana. Svayambhu Purana has been edited and the English translation has been provided by me which is published by DK PrintWorld, New Delhi. Furthermore, this 'Santoshi-Matri Purana' stands as the most recent addition to the Purana literature.
Lord Shiva, the supreme guardian of the universe, is the benevolent protector of all beings, which is why he is known as Shiva (the auspicious one). In particular, he has safeguarded Nepal in the divine form of 'Pashupati. It is by Lord Shiva's grace that the Nepali people have earned global recognition and preserved their unique identity.
Another revered manifestation of Lord Shiva is 'Neelkantha. He appeared at the foothills of a mountain in this divine form in Butwal, Nepal.
Just as 'Svargadwari Dhama', a siddha place situated in the Western hilly area, was rediscovered by Svargadwari Mahaprabhu, similarly, the ancient and sacred pilgrimage site of 'Neelkantha Dhama, highly esteemed in Satyayuga, has now been re-established by Mata Devamaya.
Mataji has been deeply immersed in spiritual experiences since childhood. She has observed the Shri Santoshi Mata Vrata (fast) continuously since the age of nine, a practice that remains unbroken to this day.
