IN THIS book, I have addressed the contention of Postmodernism against the background of modernism.
In Chapter 1 or (i.e Introduction), I have noted that it is not fair to think that postmodernism appears after modernism. In fact, both are philosophies of modern times. They differ only in their approach.
In Chapter 2, I have considered postmodernist's, idea of knowledge in the light of modernist's, view.
I have dealt with Foucault's idea of self as an agent in relation with others as opposed to the modernist's, idea of a rational, abstract, and isolated self in Chapter 3.
Chapter 4, discusses the possible reaction of a postmodernist to Habermas's idea of consensus based on a better argument, using appropriate reason.
Chapter 5, deals with the deconstruction of Derrida.
This book is a reflection of what I have learned from my father, Late Professor Kalyan Sen Gupta, a specialist in different fields of philosophy. I cannot express my gratitude to him in words. I am also grateful to my mother, Dr Ananya Sen Gupta for her constant inspiration to write this book.
I sincerely thank Shakti Publications for publishing this book and D.K. Printworld for distribuhing the same in a wider circle.
