Dr. L. Mahadevan completed his post graduation M.D Kayacikitsa, from Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram with high academic credentials. He is working as Associate Professor, Dept. of Kayachikitsa and Post graduate studies, Pankajakasthuri Ayurveda College, Killy, Kattakkada. He has his practice in Derisanamcope (A village in Kanyakumari district, Tamilnadu) and in Chennal and he teaches clinical medicine to Ayurvedic students. He has written 67 books on Ayurveda. He is a student of Dr. B. Valdyanathan & Dr. M. R.Vasudevan Nampoothiri. He has reeived ""The Best Doctor Award"" from Dr.MGR Medical University, Chennal and ""The Best Writer Award -2011"" from Govt. of Tamilnadu. He has also received ""National Award Best Scientific Writing Award"" for his book Dr. L. Mahadevan's guide to Ayurvedic Clinical Practice from RAV-CCRAS, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India. He also received a ""National Award by name Acharya Award"" from Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi. He has trained more than 1000 students all over the World and has students in 17 countries.
I started my clinical career in Nov 24th 1997. I met my great Guru Dr. B. Vaidyanadhan Sir in 1991, 1992, 1993. I was with him for three months only. At that time he trained me in tridoshic wisdom. I did not get so much opportunity to learn sodhana chikitsa and the kashayas of Kerala. Due to God's grace I got MD selection in Kayachikitsa and I got an opportunity to work under stalwarts like Dr. P. Sankarankutty Sir, Dr.M.R.Vasudevan Nampoothiri Sir, Dr. Jayaprakash Sir, etc.. I am Influenced by many other doctors too. I have the habit of reading regularly. One day Dr. B. Vaidyanadhan Sir told me, I should treat at least 5000 cases independently then only I should start teaching. I fulfilled his wishes and I continue to teach. So many students from all part of the country and abroad visit Derisanamcope which is a small village in Kanyakumari Dist, Tamilnadu and study with me. In our tradition we teach with patients and we allow the students to explore the diagnosis and the treatment strategies based on guna siddhantha. We do parallel diagnosis on modern medicine also. We do necessary Investigations. We do not compromise with diagnosis. God has helped me and blessed me a lot in this matter. After practicing for more than 20 years and seeing around 7 Lakhs cases I thought of writing a small book on successful clinical practice few days before. Success in practice depends on God's grace, hard work and effort. Few days before when Shri K. Prasannakumar Sir, The Executive Vice President of Pankajakasthuri Ayurveda College, Kattakkada called me for a graduation function, I decided and wrote the book to the students community.
Long back on a full moon day Dr.B.Vaidyanadhan Sir was making Pravala Pishti in the night. I was fascinated by his skills and I asked him which book I should read to improve my Rasa Shastra skill. He told me he will study for me, I don't have to study, I should only follow him, Who will tell these words? That is the nature of a true Guru. The Guru should be well versed in Shastra and have practical experience and he should have the desire to teach. So many years have passed after his death and the memories about him still remain very alive. I am also very thankful to my beloved grand father Vaidya Kalanidhi Dr.Y. Mahadeva lyer for giving me a sound platform to practice. He is also a great physician and ultimate human being. He did his karma by standing on Dharma. I thank Mr.Saju Ramachandran without whom no achievements in clinical medicine and writing would have not been possible. His contribution is remarkable. So my dear students you are welcome to study with me. We will study together. Anybody is welcome to our small Vaidyasala and we will share with you whatever we know.
