Book Description

About the Author

Late Mathuram Bhoothalingam, a versatile Indian writer used both the English and Tamil languages with equal ease and effect. Born in south India in 1915 and educated in Bombay, she devoted herself to the study of philosophy, literature and art, particularly of ancient India. Her first novel in Tamil was published in 1953 under the pen name "Krithika" which she continued to use in her later novels and short plays written in Tamil.

Among her Tamil novels Puhai Naduvil, Satyameva, Dharmakshetre and Outhia Konangi form a loose series, depicting the evolution of Indian society since Independence. Over the years, she developed a distinctive Tamil style of her own. The directness and simplicity of her expression excludes pedantism and obscurity.

Smt. Bhoothalingam's books in English have been published under her own name. Most of them are meant for children of various age groups. They include Ramayana, Mahabharata, Sons of Pandu, Stories of Vikramaditya, The Nectar of the Gods and Cowherd Prince.

Among her other books, mention must be made of Finger on the Lute, Alone in Ayodhya, Movement in Stone, Voyage Through the Ramayana and Had Sankara Lived Today.
