After doing his P.G, Dr. Ashish Pareek started his professional career as an Assistant Surgeon in some modern hospitals and later he joined Ayurveda College as an academician. Presently Dr. Ashish, an eminent Ayurveda surgeon with expertise and experience in Kshara-Sutra management, is working as an Assistant Professor in Dept. of Shalya Tantra of S.S.S.B. Ayurveda College and Hospital, Jaipur. He is also working as a consultant proctologist and Ayurveda cancer specialist at Pareek Piles and General Clinic, Jaipur.
Dr. Pareek is well-known speaker and has presented various papers in National and International Ayurveda seminars and also working on to approach Ayurveda concepts through modern scientific manner.
Ayurveda, an ancient and time tested knowledge of medicine, gained over trial and error over thousands of years, is a very comprehensive system; based on a holistic medicinal approach that has its roots in Vedic Culture. Ayurveda is not only a system of medicine but it also represents a way of healthy living.
The focus of Ayurveda is to integrate and balance the body, mind, and spirit, rather than focusing on individual symptoms. We can even get miraculous results for some of the dreadful diseases through Ayurveda.
In the ancient India, surgery was principally pioneered by Ayurveda. Shalya Chikitsa is a significant branch of Ayurveda science; it is best suited, when the problem is beyond just medicinal repair. Acharya Susruta is synonymous with shalya tantra. His conceptions of anatomy, physiopathology and therapeutic strategies were of unparalleled brilliance, considering the early age in the history of mankind with no supportive knowledge base preceding his era. Acharya Susruta was the first medical man who advocated and brought into practice the dissection of human cadavers by the students of surgery.
Susruta Samhita comprises vast description of different parts of the body, muscles, bones, blood vessels, tissues, wound care, studies of fetus in womb and manipulating cases of obstructed labor and various surgical and para surgical procedures and techniques. This reflects the sound knowledge of surgeons of that era.
But unfortunately the most of parts of these ancient Samhita are missing or modified in later ages. Many aspects of ancient shalya tantra are inappropriate for present era. I have tried to simplify the shalya tantra concepts for students of under graduation. I have also made efforts to make correlations between Ayurveda and modern nomenclature. Present book is based on CCIM new syllabus of under graduation. In this book I have tried to approach of incorporating both Ayurveda as well as the modern outlook of every possible surgical condition and latest advances of modern surgical practice.
I will be very grateful if readers can please write to me their opinions and suggestions about this book. Despite being meticulous, I am sure that there will be plenty of mistakes in this book. I request the students and all the readers to point them unhesitatingly so that I can improve them.
