Written in the spirit of religious tolerance, this non-denominational collection presents the great religions and spiritual treasures of the world through the lives of the great spiritual figures.
The biographies in the collection contain a wealth of essential information related to general knowledge. Each biography is concluded with inspiring quotations from the teacher or saint in question. The collection is complemented by more than two hundred and fifty unique images that are often little known to the general public.
Due to their outstanding significance, certain cultural assets must be preserved as a part of humanity's heritage. These include the teachings of the various religions and the life events of the great saints. It is important that we safeguard and preserve these assets as they provide keys to the development of humanity. Studying the exemplary lives of the great teachers can serve as a standard we can hold ourselves to, as a great asset in our search for fulfillment.
We feel that studying the lives of saints and people who lived exemplary lives should be a part of the school curriculum as an important element of education and teaching. Studying these exceptional lives can help us come closer to living in a better world and establishing a social order based on a moral framework. It is our responsibility to preserve and uphold these values as well as to convey and teach them to the younger generations.
The Torchbearers of Humanity is an encyclopedias designed to include three volumes, the first of which was published in 2007. We are now pleased to publish the second volume after over more than eight years of preparations. Throughout the encyclopedia's editorial work, our goal was to capture as much as possible of the spiritual devotion of humanity by presenting the biographies of the founders of religions and the most influential saints and spiritual teachers on the planet. Previously published religious encyclopedias were more focused on the religious teachings instead of the biographies.
When compiling the life events of these exceptional figures, we were often faced with huge chaos and we had to deal with a number of inaccuracies, both in terms of the various biographical events and the teachings themselves. Such inaccurate details were most frequently found on various websites.
Just as in the case of the first volume of the series, the second volume features the carefully compiled biographies of seventy-two exceptional human beings. We turned to the various followers and those with thorough knowledge on the saint or teacher in question for their expert opinion. We often sought out and continue to seek out any supplementary and constructive suggestions for the future editions of the encyclopedia. All the biographies contained in the present volume are supplemented by a number of key quotes, while both volumes of the religious encyclopedia are complemented by over 250 unique illustrations and pictures. These images alone truly set the encyclopedia apart from other similar publications.
When compiling the list of individuals to be included in the volume, we were unfortunately unable to satisfy everyone's needs. We strive to include the biographies of as many people as possible who made some truly great contribution towards the spirituality of our planet. Still, we would like to take this opportunity - just as we did so in the preface to the first volume to extend our apology to those whose religious founder or favorite saint was not included in the volume. We are open to further suggestions concerning the third volume and will do our best to make up for any shortcoming or omissions.
