In folk legacy Santoor is a musical instrument which imitates the flow of the Nature and in spiritual tradition Flute [Bansuri] is an instrument chosen for himself by Lord Krishna, an Avtar of God. No wonder when Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma and Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia the greatest exponents of Santoor and Bansuri respectively, perform, they give ecstatic moments to the listeners and a feeling of being one with the God, is generated.
Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma was born in the family of the Priests of a Royal family. He started as a Vocalist and later on earned a reputation of being an excellent Tabla accompanist. One day Shivji’s father and Guru Pt. Umadutta Sharma declared Santoor to be his destiny. What we see is that during the last half century, Pt. Shivji has turned to be the destiny of Santoor.
Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia was born in the family of the Wrestlers. First Pt. Bhatt and then Smt. Annapoornadevi carved a Musician out of him. With massive blowing strength and giant stamina Hariji has taken Lord Hari’s tender instrument to the new heights.
