Preface
An ancient yogi Jnana Deva said, "Man does not die, he kills himself". This is true in the case of most people. While it is true that all must die sometime, yet very few live out the natural term of life. Many scientists estimate that the natural term of man's life is about one hundred years. Most of the people do not live more than one-third as many years as they should live and this is why it may be said that people kill themselves. Otherwise they would live for hundred years or more. Most men and women while young have good health and are strong physically. When they were warned against doing unnatural and health-damaging things, they scuff and say, "I am young and strong, it will not hurt me to do this". According to the philosophy of karam yoga "Whatsoever a man so, that shall he also reap". The young men and women who form bad habits and adopt unnatural ways of living are sowing the seeds of disease in their body and sooner or later they will reap ill-health. People normally want to live a long life. Nobody wants to die, and nobody wants to grow old. Yet aging is a continuous process beginning with birth and progressing throughout life. The wise individual before he reaches the later years will rely on the science of yoga to help prepare him for old age. Many changes occur in the aging process which, if neglected can result in chronic physical illness or mental infirmity. With the adoption of the system of yoga in totality such deterioration can be prevented and mitigated. With increasing age there is a slowing down of all the functions and physiological reactions of the body.
