Raga bhimpalasi is one of the most popular late afternoon rages. This raga is derived from Kafi Thaat. Its arohi and avarohi are S G N D P M G R S. The mood of the raga is compassion. The “karuna rasa” that the evokes relieves the physical and emotional stresses of a listener and brings about equanimity in their minds. Raga Bhimpalasi is a very versatile raga and is suitable for elaborate exposition in classical music format and for simple folk music, bhajan, film music ets.

It has been days since he left her beloved. Every second seems so long for her in his absence and her heart for his return. A lilting melody from Kamaj Thaat, raga kalavathy is also a raga for late night. S G P D N S are the notes is both ascending and descending scale. Listening to this raga one descries a freely flowing river without turbulences or wild streams indicative of a mind that has just been relieved of a mental affliction or a mind just freed from doubts. The raga creates a sense of freedom in the listener’s minds.
