About the Title

Vaastu means that which already exists- a mansion or a small house where we live with our family. The story of Vaastupurush or The God of Vaastu is quite interesting. A battle was going on between lord Shiva and the denon Andhalaasur. During the fight, a few drops of Lord Shiva's sweat fell on the ground. From that arose the strong and powerful Vaastupurush. On seeing him all the Gods got frightened and prayed to the Lord of Creation- Lord Brahma, to save them from this frightening creation.

Lord Brahma said "All of you together should bury him in the ground head first in such a way that his face points in north-east direction and the feet point in the south –west direction". The Gods did as they were told. But Vaastupurush prayed to Lord Brahma and said "As of today, let all these gods and goddesses stay with me on the earth". Lord Brahma blessed him and said "Thathaatsu! (so be it) From today all householders will first make an offering to you before any ceremony." This is why on such occasions as housewarming ceremonies, weddings and at the time of beginning one's education, the Vaastupooja is performed.

The Vaastuooja helps to disintegrate all obstacles in the environment and otherwise that may impede us. It protects us form untoward harm and misfortune. As the vaastustuti states- 'Sashaila Sagara Prithvi Yatha Vahasi Murdhari' 'Just as you carry the weight of the earth with its mountains and oceans, in the same way protect me and my children along with my wealth and my house.

A family man requests for protection from all dangers of the world from Lord Vaastu, so that he may live safely within the four walls of his dwelling. He desires that his house be filled with life, health, wealth, food, knowledge and children. He wants his house to be rid of all doshas, such that with the blessings of Lord Vaastu, his house is filled with love and affection. This is why he performs a pooja to Lord Vaastu alongside Lord Ganesha, Lakshminarayan, Umamaheswar, his family deity and his village deity. He pays obeisance to the elders of the house and seeks their blessings. He pays obeisance to the ten directions of the Universe, to the six seasons, the five elements- fire, water, air, sky and earth- seeking their blessings. He prays and seeks protection of his family from impending calamities. Each and every householder offers the same prayer at all times such that he may be free from worries and anxieties. Our heartfelt salutations to the extremely powerful Vaastudev.
Om shanti shanti shanti.

The Album

The album begins with the Vaastustuti, which is sung in praise of Vaastu Purush, who was born from the droplets of sweat which once poured of Lord Shiva. After the Vaastustuti, which invokes Vaastu Purush, Ganesh Vandana and a sholkh in praise of Lord Ganesha is sung before starting the ritual of Vastu Shuddhi &Shanti.

The rituals of Vaastu Shuddhi starts with the Kalash Sthapan chants are usually recited by a pandit to purify one's environment. The instrumentation in this track is kept to a minimum to allow the power of the chants to come through. This is followed by the Shikhyadi- Davata Awahan which summons all the Gods to bless the environment. We then proceed to the 108 Chants in praise of Vasstu Purush- 'Om Sri Vaastu Devaya Namah'.

The ritual of Vaastu Shanti proceeds towards conclusion with the Kshama Prarthna- a prayer of forgiveness towards anything wrong that has been said or done and then asking for Vaastu Purush's blessigs. Thin is then rounded off with the Shanti Mantra, which begins with the sounds of crickets, the ocean and the gong. These are auspicious elements with respect to Vaastu and their sounds are helpful in spreading positive vibrations. The chant 'Om Shanti Om' has been recited along with the Shanti mantra to spread peace, happiness and harmony in one's environment.

Vaastu Yantra

The Vaastu Yantra is an instrument, apparatus, talisman or mystical diagram through which the invisible sources of energy can be made to act or work for the advantage of the individual, by helping him realize his dreams and fulfill his desires & ambitions.

Yantras work through the five basic elements of nature, i.e. Earth, Water, Fire, Air & Sky, and by recitation of certain mantras. The Vaastu Yantra not only helps to cure all inherent Vaastu faults and remove their ill-effects, but also generates the positive & beneficial effects of Vaastu. This Yantra should be either be buried under the ground before or after construction, with due rituals, or installed at the Pooja room, and worshipped.
