This miniature, Deccani in concept, is sober in its selection of the palette. The man seated against a big bolster seems an ordinary man, not a chieftain or a dignitary. The bold, rounded form of the man looks not at the viewer but elsewhere. Dressed in opaque white attire consisting of a full-sleeved jama and a tight pyjama, he looks dignified. His posture and movements of the limbs lack activity and reflect relaxation. A small turban sits precariously on his big head. The face with multi-layers of chins merge with the body, the neck almost concealed. The eyes look vacuous and the mouth is unsmiling, the expression being that of anxiety or worry. A tray with betel leaf preparation lies in the foreground. A small pillow also lies closely, which is quite unnecessary and in no way adds to the substance of the composition.
A sober colour palette deviate from the gaudy Deccani chromatic rule.
