Many paintings depicting dance and music were painted during Akbar's reign, keeping in mind the emperor's aural and musical interest. To a usual content of illustrations, a musician playing an instrument adds sound.

Royal families showed interest in the fine arts of dance and music and encouraged the young to take early training. Masters in the arts were employed to impart knowledge to them. In this miniature, we see a group of young royal children engrossed in musical endeavor. The teacher sits against a bolster, explaining the nuances of music to the young boys on his right. A shoulder cloth is spread around his upper body. His grey beard depicts seniority and imparts wisdom to his serene face. His body language speaks of infinite patience. The boys attending listen as they play drums and a harmonium. Their hands are positioned in a manner that suggest they are playing the instruments. The girls on the right are less attentive, taking advantage of the teachers' attention towards the other two.
