The sweet and
all-attractive Krishna is the reservoir of all pleasure and therefore, whoever
reads or hears about His pastimes, simply goes into the state of trance because
His activities are beyond the material platform. Everyone in Vrindavan loved
Krishna with their heart and soul and in return, He gave them the highest form
of pleasure. Although He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He appeared
just like an ordinary child and performed uncommon and mystic activities that
were always an astonishment for everyone around Him. Among all the depictions
of devotional icons in Tanjore style paintings, Lord Krishna’s childhood form
is the most appreciated and loved.
Here, baby Krishna sits on calmly on a beautiful swing accompanied by two gopis standing next to Him on either side. The long chains and pendants around His neck cover His naked body. He, who is very fond of stealing and eating butter from the houses of gopis, holds a butterball in His right hand and is ready to gulp it down at any moment. He slightly tilts His delicate neck to one side and brings a smile on His moonlike face which can light up the whole universe. Seeing the enchanting bodily features and innocent acts of baby Krishna, the gopis attired in beautiful sarees become blissful and they look at Him with their eyes filled with immense love and affection. Whoever sees this painting sees a festival. Also, the precision with which the artist has embellished it with the work of pure gold coating studded with sequences of red and green stones is praiseworthy.
