The auspicious son of Shiva-Parvati, revering his powerful parents, this watercolor painting depicts a divine scene of Kailash, the abode of Mahadeva, in the idiom of Mewar school of Rajput painting. Against a blooming background of trees, floral vines, and lush hilltops, Shiva and Parvati are enthroned on a marble throne, emerging from a pillar that grows from the water in the foreground. The four-armed Shiva is adorned with a golden stream of Ganga, serpents, and a garland of heads which he shares with Parvati, who sits on his lap, embracing him. Intertwined beautifully, Shiva and Parvati in this form symbolize the perfect balance of Purusha and Prakriti- the male and female energies, which form, sustain, and restart the Creation.
In front of the supremely divine parents of the Universe, stands Ganesha, represented as an adult man, with a beard and a well-formed body, a characteristic of Mewar school in depiction of Ganesha. Chaturbhuja or four-armed Ganesha holds a two-pronged weapon, Veda, a pot of water, and a plate of Modaka. Facing his parents in an animated pose, Ganesha seems to be offering them the sweets with reverence and affection, evoking their powers as the omnipresent Shiva-Shakti who are the seed of Srishti (creation).
