“Mahakalanamo”, in Tibetan tradition Mahakala translates to the great dark one, and namo represents his glory. A Wrathful Buddhist deity, Mahakala is said to be an avatar of Vajradhara Buddha. The ruler of time, he is the Dharamapala protector of the Dharma.
Adorned in skull jewelry, he’s fearsome in the look of his eyes and facial that are scorching flames. He holds a Kapala, Kartari, Mundamala, and Trishula standing upright on an elephant, appearing from the sacred fire. As terrifying as he appears, he’s a deity of compassion in essence.
