Behold this exquisite statue, a testament to the rich artistic heritage of Orissa. Carved from a single piece of wood, it depicts Lord Ganesha, the beloved elephant-headed deity revered across India and beyond. In this representation, Ganesha is shown as "Chaturbhuj," meaning he possesses four arms, each holding significant symbolism. His presence is both powerful and benevolent, embodying his role as the Remover of Obstacles and the bestower of wisdom and good fortune. ––––––––––––––––––––

Iconography and Symbolism

Lord Ganesha's form is replete with meaning. His elephant head symbolizes wisdom, intellect, and strength. The large ears signify his ability to listen attentively to all prayers, while his trunk, flexible and discerning, represents his adaptability and discriminative power. In this particular sculpture, Ganesha holds an axe in one of his hands. This formidable weapon represents his power to cut through ignorance and delusion, clearing the path for devotees. In another hand, he cradles a modak, a sweet delicacy. The modak symbolizes the sweetness of spiritual realization and the rewards of devotion.
