The Auspicious One

This striking brass sculpture captures the serene yet powerful essence of Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities of Hinduism. Crafted by hand in India, this piece is a testament to the enduring artistic traditions of the region. The smooth, rich finish of the brass lends a warm and inviting aura to the statue, making it a captivating addition to any sacred space or home. Shiva, often referred to as the Destroyer or the Transformer, embodies both the destructive and regenerative forces of the universe. He is revered as the supreme ascetic, the master of yoga, and the divine consort of Parvati. Through his dances, he creates, preserves, and destroys the cosmos, representing the cyclical nature of existence. His devotees seek his blessings for strength, wisdom, and liberation from the cycle of birth and death.

Iconography and Symbolism

Seated in a meditative pose, Shiva’s tranquil expression reflects his inner peace and profound wisdom. His right hand is raised in the abhaya mudra, a gesture of reassurance and protection, bestowing blessings upon those who seek his refuge. In his left hand, he gently holds his trident, known as the trishula, a powerful symbol representing the three aspects of consciousness: waking, dreaming, and sleeping. The trishula also symbolizes Shiva's control over the three gunas – sattva (goodness), rajas (passion), and tamas (ignorance). Beneath Shiva, the statue depicts Nandi, the bull, who serves as Shiva's vahana, or mount. Nandi represents strength, faith, and devotion, symbolizing the unwavering loyalty a devotee should have towards the divine. Nandi is also considered the gatekeeper of Shiva and Parvati's abode, Mount Kailash. The intricate detailing of the base further enhances the sculpture's artistic appeal and spiritual significance. This sculpture serves not only as a decorative piece but also as a powerful reminder of the divine presence within and around us. Its presence will fill any room with a sense of serenity, contemplation, and divine grace.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
