This Female Acrobat Oil Lamp in brass is a monument to the lamp manufacturers' astute skill. In the crown picture, a female acrobat balances her hands with her feet and legs high over her head. The chain is tied to the female's back, and beneath her is a Kindi Vilakku light. The lamp's pot-shaped body also serves as an oil reservoir. There is only one wick that recharges via the oil pot. This light has no spiritual value and is mainly used as a decorative object.

An Ascetic's Light: The Daring Dancer of Illumination

This exquisite hanging oil lamp is a testament to the artistry and spiritual depth of India. Crafted from lustrous brass, it depicts a female figure in a daring acrobatic pose, suspended by her legs and supporting a traditional oil lamp with her hands. The intricate detailing of her form, adorned with traditional jewelry and a serene expression, speaks volumes of the skilled hands that brought this piece to life. This is more than just a decorative item; it is a functional piece of art imbued with cultural significance. ––––––––––––––––––––

Symbolism and Spiritual Resonance

The pose of the acrobat is reminiscent of yogic asanas, symbolizing balance, control, and the mastery of the physical form. In Hindu mythology, figures like the celestial dancers Apsaras are renowned for their grace and agility, often associated with divine beauty and the elevation of the spirit. The act of balancing, especially while holding a lamp, can be seen as a metaphor for the spiritual journey – navigating life's challenges with poise and illuminating the path with inner wisdom. The lamp itself, a source of light, represents knowledge, purity, and the dispelling of darkness, both literal and metaphorical. When lit, it casts a warm, inviting glow, transforming any space into an area of tranquility and contemplation. ––––––––––––––––––––

A Heritage of Craftsmanship

Handmade in India, this oil lamp carries the legacy of generations of artisans. Brass, a metal deeply revered in Indian traditions for its purity and auspiciousness, has been meticulously worked to create this unique masterpiece. The process of lost-wax casting, a technique honed over centuries, allows for the creation of such complex and delicate forms. Each lamp is a singular creation, bearing the subtle variations that mark true handcrafted items, ensuring that your piece is as unique as the story it tells. Its substantial presence, marked by its height and the accompanying chain, makes it a striking focal point, whether hung in a puja room, a meditation space, or any corner of your home seeking a touch of timeless elegance. This lamp is not just an object, but a conversation starter, a piece of art, and a conduit for light and devotion.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
