Bejeweled platforms or rostrums with royal demeanor provide the deities with a place to rest. They are also known as Sighasan in local languages. They got their name from an antique construction in which the platform stands were constructed to look like the Lion or Singha foot. This brass Singhasan, adorned with sacred Vaishnava motifs, is an appropriate resting place for Gods and Goddesses. The rostrum has a traditional lion standing on a lotus pedestal, with a Urdhva Pundra as the middle crown and a Shanka and Chakra aiding it from both sides. Coiled vines surround the significant symbols. This pedestal, or rostrum, is a stunning work of art that also serves as a ceremonial item.

A Seat of Divine Presence

This exquisite brass Singhasan is more than just a decorative item; it is a sacred throne, a focal point for devotion, and a testament to the enduring artistry of Indian craftsmanship. The term "Singhasan" itself evokes the image of a lion's throne, a symbol of power, royalty, and the regal presence of deities. In Hindu tradition, the Singhasan is the seat upon which the divine is invited to reside during puja and meditation, bestowing blessings and spiritual energy upon the devotee and the space.

Craftsmanship and Symbolism

Crafted from high-quality brass, this Singhasan displays an exceptional level of detail and intricate design. The lustrous sheen of the brass complements the elaborate carvings that adorn its structure. The centerpiece of this divine seat is the prominent Trishul, the trident of Lord Shiva, signifying his divine power, his role as the destroyer of evil, and his command over the three gunas (Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas). Flanking the Trishul are beautifully rendered Vaishnava symbols. The Chakra, the discus of Lord Vishnu, represents his power to protect and maintain cosmic order, and is also seen as a symbol of time and the universe's cyclical nature. The conch shell, or Shankha, is another potent Vaishnava emblem, its sound believed to dispel negativity and invoke divine auspiciousness. The lotus flower, a pervasive symbol in Hinduism, represents purity, beauty, and spiritual awakening, signifying that even in the material world, one can remain unattached and pure.

Echoes of Mythology

The very design of the Singhasan connects us to ancient narratives. Imagine deities seated upon such ornate thrones, dispensing wisdom and justice. The Trishul is inseparable from Lord Shiva's iconography, used to defeat demons like Andhakasura and also to mark sacred spaces. Vishnu's Chakra, Sudarshana Chakra, is a formidable weapon that protects the righteous and destroys wickedness. The conch shell is often depicted being blown by divine beings, heralding auspicious occasions and victory. This Singhasan serves as a tangible link to these powerful stories and the divine energies they represent, inviting a sense of reverence and spiritual connection into your home or place of worship. ––––––––––––––––––

A Focal Point for Devotion

The generous proportions of this Singhasan make it an ideal platform for housing idols of various deities, particularly those associated with Vaishnavism, such as Lord Vishnu, Lord Rama, or Lord Krishna. Its robust construction ensures stability, allowing you to place your cherished deities with confidence. Whether situated in a home altar, a temple, or a dedicated meditation space, this brass Singhasan will undoubtedly become a focal point of beauty and spiritual significance, enhancing the sanctity and aesthetic appeal of your sacred surroundings. Its timeless design and profound symbolism make it a cherished heirloom, passed down through generations, carrying with it the essence of devotion and artistic heritage.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
