Modeled after the classic bronze icons of Sri Vishnu in the sanctums of South India, this brass statue of Sri Vishnu depicts him in his Chaturbhuja, or four-armed roopa, as the mighty preserver of the Universe. Standing in an upright posture that suggests activity, stillness, and supreme authority of the great god, Vishnu is adorned with a Vaishnava Kiritamukuta crown, an elongated crown seen on deities related to his sect, a U-shaped Vaishnava forehead mark, necklaces, Yajnopavita, and waistbelt.

He wears a soft dhoti whose fine details are beautifully delineated in the metal icon with incised lines. With his fingers in a scissor-like gesture which is often seen in Panchaloha bronze murtis, Sri Vishnu holds Chakra (discus) and Shankha (conch) in his secondary hands, places his primary left hand gracefully on his Gada (mace) and raises his right hand in Abhaya- the gesture of fearlessness.

The Preserver: An Embodiment of Cosmic Order

Behold, a handcrafted brass representation of the revered deity, Vishnu, an integral figure in the Hindu Trinity. This striking statue captures the essence of the Preserver, whose cosmic responsibility is to maintain dharma (righteousness) and balance in the universe. Every line and curve of this handcrafted piece speaks of the devotion and skill poured into its creation by artisans in India, carrying on a legacy of generations. The statue stands at a height of 18.50 inches, with a width of 8.50 inches and a depth of 6.00 inches, a substantial presence that will command attention in any space.

The Symbolism of Form

Vishnu is commonly depicted with four arms, each wielding a symbolic item representing his divine power and functions. The *chakra* (discus) represents the mind, the *gada* (mace) symbolizes primal energy, the *padma* (lotus) embodies purity and divine beauty, and the *shankha* (conch) signifies divine sound, or *Om*, the primordial sound of creation. He stands upon a pedestal, intricately adorned, providing a solid foundation. The abhaya mudra displayed by one of his hands symbolizes his offering of blessings and dispelling fears. The serene expression on Vishnu’s face reflects his benevolent nature and unwavering commitment to upholding the cosmic order.

Tales of Vishnu's Incarnations

Throughout the ages, Vishnu has incarnated in various forms, known as avatars, to restore balance to the world when it is threatened by evil. These avatars include the fish (Matsya), the tortoise (Kurma), the boar (Varaha), the man-lion (Narasimha), the dwarf (Vamana), Parashurama, Rama, Krishna, Buddha (in some traditions), and Kalki, who is yet to come. Each avatar represents a specific victory over darkness and a reaffirmation of dharma. Stories of these incarnations are woven into the cultural fabric of India, teaching moral lessons and inspiring devotion. The tales of Rama's righteousness, Krishna's wisdom, and Narasimha's fierce protection resonate deeply within the hearts of millions.

The Beauty of Brass: A Timeless Tradition

Crafted meticulously from brass, this statue possesses a warmth and luster that adds to its spiritual aura. Brass, a metal alloy of copper and zinc, has been used in Indian art and sculpture for centuries. Its durability ensures that this piece will remain a treasured possession for generations to come, a tangible link to India's rich artistic and spiritual heritage. The weight and feel of the brass lend a sense of solidity and permanence, reflecting the eternal nature of the deity it represents. The subtle variations in the finish only enhance the handcrafted quality, making each piece unique. Bring home this stunning representation of divinity, and let the presence of Vishnu imbue your surroundings with peace, prosperity, and the eternal promise of cosmic balance.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
