The Deeplakshmi, or deity of Lamp, is revered and has been depicted in many styles since ancient times. However, the basic structure remains constant, ii. the standing posture, holding a lamp, and parrots sitting on her shoulder, but there are often experiments on her attire and stance. Many Deeplakshmi are standing in the tribhanga pose, but this brass pair of Deeplakshims stands straight. What attracts the attention is their attire, which is prominently inspired by the Salabhanjika of the Hoysala style of temples.

Here, the elaborately decorated Deeplakshmi is standing on a lotus pedestal and wearing exquisite jewelry on their waist and below. The elongated, thick chains dangling from the main Kamarpatta or waist belts showcase the ancient glory of jewelry designs. Their graceful face and hairdo signify their godly status. It is believed that placing the pair of Deeplakshmi’s brings good luck and fortune in a household and also increases the glory of the decor.

Lakshmi: Goddess of Abundance

Lakshmi is one of the most revered goddesses in Hinduism, embodying wealth, prosperity, love, beauty, and grace. As the consort of Vishnu, the preserver of the universe, she symbolizes the active energy and abundance that sustains all creation. She is often depicted with gold coins pouring from her hands, a symbol of the material and spiritual wealth she bestows upon her devotees. Lighting a lamp in her honor invites her blessings into the home, removing obstacles and attracting auspicious energies. She is often invoked alongside other Hindu deities like Ganesha.

Sacred Art from India

These Deeplakshmi statues are a testament to the rich artistic heritage of India, where craftsmanship is often viewed as a sacred practice. Passed down through generations, the techniques used to create these statues reflect a deep connection to tradition and a reverence for the divine. The brass medium itself is considered auspicious in Hindu traditions, symbolizing purity and strength. Owning this pair of Deeplakshmi statues not only enhances the beauty of your space but also connects you to the ancient spiritual and artistic traditions of India.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
