The current traditional lamps display a range of experiments made by ancient craftsmen. There are instances when a Mayil Vilakku has been amalgamated with a Nila Vilakku. The design is further decorated with parrot motifs at the stand. This brass handmade lamp is a result of such experiments. It is divided into five major parts. The first is the intricate stand with vine strictures. The second one is the five-wick lamp attached to the stand. The third part is the stem ornamented with parrot motifs.

The fourth part is another set of wicks attached to the oil basin. The fifth and final part is the Annam or mythical peacock statue attached to the lamp in the form of a lid. The peacock motif works as a handle to the lid. The use of a lid is to allow equal flame from all the wicks. The peacock atop the lamp is elaborate and looks regal. This lamp is a very interesting item that carries the evidence of a milestone in traditional map design.

An Ode to Light and Auspiciousness

Elevate your sacred space with this magnificent puja lamp, a testament to India's rich artisanal heritage and profound spiritual traditions. Standing at an impressive height, this lamp is more than just a decorative piece; it is a conduit for divine energy, designed to infuse your home with peace, prosperity, and auspiciousness. Crafted from high-quality brass, its lustrous sheen and intricate detailing speak volumes of the skill and dedication of its makers.

A Symphony of Symbolism

The design of this lamp is a rich tapestry of auspicious symbols, each imbued with deep cultural and mythological significance. At its apex, a beautifully rendered peacock proudly surveys its surroundings. In Hindu mythology, the peacock is the vahana (vehicle) of Lord Kartikeya, the god of war and victory, and is also associated with the goddess Saraswati, the patron of arts, music, and knowledge. Its vibrant plumage is said to ward off negativity and bring good fortune. The lamp's base is supported by elegantly curved legs, providing stability and a sense of groundedness. The central stem is adorned with depictions of mythical lions, known as "Simhas" or "Kirtimukhas" in some contexts, which are potent guardians against evil and symbols of power and strength. These elements combine to create a piece that is not only aesthetically captivating but also spiritually charged.

The Eternal Glow of Brass

Brass, a metal revered in Indian culture for its purity and durability, is the chosen medium for this exquisite lamp. It is believed to possess inherent purifying qualities and is often used in religious artifacts to conduct divine vibrations. The warm, golden hue of brass is synonymous with wealth, knowledge, and divinity, making it the ideal material for a lamp intended for puja and sacred rituals. Each curve and detail has been meticulously shaped by hand, a process that imbues the lamp with a unique character and a sense of soulful craftsmanship, ensuring that no two pieces are exactly alike.

Illuminating Tradition

For centuries, the lighting of diyas (oil lamps) has been an integral part of Hindu worship and celebrations. The diya represents the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. This lamp, with its generous size and multiple wicks, is designed to hold a significant flame, casting a warm and inviting glow that can illuminate even the grandest of altars. Whether used for daily prayers, special festivals like Diwali, or significant life events, this lamp serves as a focal point for devotion and a reminder of the divine presence in our lives. Its presence can transform any room into a sanctuary, fostering an atmosphere of tranquility and spiritual contemplation.

A Legacy of Craftsmanship

This puja lamp is a product of India's time-honored brass crafting traditions, passed down through generations of artisans. From the initial casting to the final polishing, every step is executed with precision and an unwavering commitment to quality. The intricate patterns and motifs are not merely decorative; they are a visual language, speaking of ancient stories and cultural values. Owning this lamp means possessing a piece of living history, an heirloom that can be cherished and passed down, continuing to grace homes with its light and spiritual resonance for years to come. It is an investment in beauty, tradition, and the enduring power of light.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
